Effects of Land Cover Changes on Compound Extremes over West Africa Using the Regional Climate Model RegCM4

چکیده

This study aims to characterize the impacts of Sahel–Sahara interface reforestation on compound extremes in Sahel region during West African monsoon season (June–July–August–September, JJAS). For this purpose, we performed a simulation with standard version RegCM4 model, and another altered same taking into account incorporated forest. Results show that may strongly influence frequency individual extreme events (dry warm days) by decreasing them over off reforested zone. The reduction these dry days be due partly strengthening atmospheric moisture content most parts domain weakening sensible heat flux south 16° N. analysis also shows an increase wet zone, which could associated evapotranspiration domain, including area. strong occurrence dry/warm mode northern for both runs, probably weak precipitation recorded Both experiments simulated wet/warm high rainfall region. When comparing impact was decrease (increase) (wet/warm) is consistent days, while driven days. Finally, when considering seasonal cycle, exhibits more substantial beginning (June–July, JJ) than peak summer (August–September, AS). Moreover, similarly affects JJ AS increasing it Southern (south 15° N). work suggests good solution policymakers mitigate climate change develop better strategies water resource management.

Climate model simulated changes in temperature extremes due to land cover change

[1] A climate model, coupled to a sophisticated land surface scheme, is used to explore the impact of land use induced land cover change (LULCC) on climate extremes indices recommended by the Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI). The impact from LULCC is contrasted with the impact of doubling atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). Many of the extremes indices related to tempe...

Effects of Land Cover and Regional Climate Variations on Long-Term Spatiotemporal Changes in Sagebrush Ecosystems

This research investigated the effects of climate and land cover change on variation in sagebrush ecosystems. We combined information of multi-year sagebrush distribution derived from multitemporal remote sensing imagery and climate data to study the variation patterns of sagebrush ecosystems under different potential disturbances. We found that less than 40% of sagebrush ecosystem changes invo...

The Effect of Land Cover/Land Use Changes on the Regional Climate of the USA High Plains

We present the detection of the signatures of land use/land cover (LULC) changes on the regional climate of the US High Plains. We used the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) as a proxy of LULC changes and atmospheric CO2 concentrations as a proxy of greenhouse gases. An enhanced signal processing procedure was developed to detect the signatures of LULC changes by integrating autoreg...
